A teddy bear named 'Mohamed'

Is it possible to classify a whole country as nutballs? After reading this article, Sudan now officially qualifies for nutball status.

A British teacher jailed in Sudan for letting her class of seven-year-olds name a teddy bear Mohamed, has been charged with insulting religion and inciting hatred.

Gillian Gibbons, 54, was also charged with showing contempt for religious beliefs and could face up to 40 lashes and six months imprisonment under Sudan's sharia law.

Gillian Gibbons is going to have the snot beat out of her because she taught Muslim children how to think. In the process of thinking, they named a teddy bear Mohamed. What the hell? Religion blows. Islam blows, sharia blows, the Sudan blows, it all blows.

The entire concept of "blasphemy" blows. If a god is so pissed off at something someone says or does let him/her/it deal with it in the afterlife...

Oh wait, there is no afterlife and there are no gods so it's just a bunch of superstitious idiots pissed off because they've had their beliefs dissed and they want BLOOD in return. In this case, over a frikkin' TEDDY BEAR.
Jeeez, the human race blows.

There are times when I think it would be a good idea to bomb the whole Islamic world back to the stone age. I wonder if they'd notice?

Yeah, like our US fundies and politicians are a shining example of goodness in the world. Your comment illustrates how horrible mankind can be and you can't even see the irony in your own statement. Of course your supposedly humorous "I wonder if they'd notice" line is supposed to make up for the assinine statement that came before it.

I remember thinking how f*cking moronic and callous fundies can be when I saw the bumper sticker "Iran: Kill 'em all, let God sort it out". But, you probably think it's witty and profound.

There are a lot of decent people (atheists, agnostics jews, hindu, christian, and yes muslim), in this world just trying to survive and then there are the pedantic asswipes who remind us how inhumane we humans can be.
People suck, but suggesting we commit wholesale slaughter because of a few religious extremists is sick, and ironically, it just illustrates how badly people suck...

Wow. I'd have never known genocide was a bad idea if you didn't tell me. Out of context, the first sentence of my comment is atrocious. But the last sentence was the whole point of the thing, not just something tagged on to make it sound good. It was not a suggestion of a course of action but rather a comment on a whole group of people who can't, morally at least, find their way out of the stone age.

If you "bomb" them "back to the stone age", you would only send them back a few hundred years as they only got as far as the 7th century.

There is actually no prohibition in Islam against using the name Mohammed. It's just the Sharia interpretation of the Quran, that says the name is sacred (except for mass murderers etc)... a bad religion made worse by so called Muslim scholars (isn't that an oxymoron?)

In fact in the UK, muslims used a teddy bear named Adam (another of the prophets) to raise funds ... you may be interested to know that in the Quran Mohammed is only the latest of the prophets. He is not preeminent (at least in the Quran).

In fact some Muslims consider the religion to be in danger of becoming polytheist, because of the modern cult of Mohammed, where the hadiths overrule the Quran ... of course they keep this to themselves LOL

With the news that the teacher has been jailed for 15 days in Sudan, they prove what a detestable creed they are. We in the West are under grave threat (it wasn't so long ago that some Sharia courts were proposed in Canada for gods sake!) and it will be tried again ... probably in France or the UK.

Luckily the European Court of Human Rights has ruled in 2003 and 2004, that "that Sharia is incompatible with the fundamental principles of democracy" (13/02/2003), because the Sharia rules on inheritance, women's rights and religious freedoms violate human rights, as established in the European Convention on Human Rights, but that won't stop an attempt to introduce it.

Personally I am happy when this evil religion exposes itself for what it is, it just removes a few more blinkers.

NB: I am not much fonder of other religions Fundies either ... but they usually have less power to hurt than the musim ones.
